The founders of the School Dr. Viktor and Anna Polonsky are Russian-born pianists and teachers, who immigrated to the United States in 1990, and worked as Professors of Piano at Miami and Dayton Universities in Ohio for 6 years respectively (1991-1996). In Russia Viktor and Anna Polonsky worked as Professors of Piano and soloists for Russian Philharmonic. They performed all over Russian Republics, and in Brazil, Italy, South Korea, Israel, Canada, and Australia.
Dr. Viktor and Anna Polonsky started their Piano School at first in their home in Santa Clara in 1996, and later they expended to add 4 more location in Saratoga Santa Clara, and Cupertino, with about 600 students total, and 32 teachers. This School has been built on a great traditions of Russian Romantic Teaching Piano School in a combination with a world known Suzuki teaching method, with it’s emphases on developing a strong technique, and deep understanding and love for the meaning of music.
In 2005 Anna and Viktor opened a new location in Evergreen, and sold all others. At this point PPS is located only in Evergreen. In July of 2013 the School has been acquired by Russian born, and American trained – with Master’s Degree in Piano Performance and Pedagogy from the University of Washington in Seattle, Master/Teacher of PPS Dmitriy Kosovskiy.
A native of Belarus (former Soviet Union), Mr. Kosovskiy began piano studies at the age of 6. Since coming to the United States in 1999, Dmitriy has participated in numerous local and national competitions and in 2002 began his undergraduate and graduate studies in Piano Performance and Pedagogy at the University of Washington under the guidance of Prof. Craig Sheppard and Prof. Patricia Michaelian. While at the University, Dmitriy has performed numerous times with UW Wind Orchestra, received numerous awards and scholarships and performed as a soloist with UW Symphony Orchestra several times. Upon competition his Master’s Degree in Piano Performance and Pedagogy in 2009, Dmitriy began his tenure at the Polonsky Piano School, now Pacific Piano School (PPS), where he has taught 30-40 students on a weekly basis, some of whom have already participated and were prize winners at National and International competitions.
Together with previous owners, Mr. Kosovskiy, strongly believes that performance activities are very important part of our kid’s education. Every performance on stage boosts student’s confidence, gives them an extra incentive and the goal to practice, rewards them with applause, presents, compliments, and joy of sharing music with others.
This why School’s students perform 3-4 times a year, they play Competitions, Annual Festivals; all of them play National Guild Auditions in May. After auditioning for independent judges from National Teachers Association, every student receives a Certificate or a Diploma, and a pin according to their level. Also, the most serious and motivated students prepare and take a very challenging CA Certificate of Merit Test and ABSRM Test.
Pacific Piano School offers Individual Piano, Guitar, Voice, Flute, and Violin lessons for students age 3 to 83, as well as Practical Theory, Preparatory Group classes for all young kids age 3-5, Piano-Violin Ensemble Class, and Group Piano for 3-4 y/old kids. Check out our classes!
